Plato said that “knowledge is the food of the soul”. If that’s true, then Technology First’s Taste of IT conference is one of the best technology soul food buffets in the region. The conference that is in its 12th year provides a menu of topics for information technology professionals of every level and across all industries. For this one day event, Sinclair College’s Ponitz Center becomes the restaurant where Dayton area IT professionals feast on samplings from 20 individual presentations and 2 keynote presentations as well as find out what’s cooking at the vendor exposition.
The appetizer for this year’s event is the morning keynote presented by Zach Huhn, Chief Executive Officer of Venture Smarter, a Cincinnati-based organization that helps build smart cities and connected communities. Zach is also the Chairman of the Smart Regions Initiatives and he will present “Ingredients of a Smart City”. This presentation will highlight the use of technology to promote connectivity and mobility for the purpose of creating better places to live, work, and visit and will whet everyone’s appetites for the day to come.
Following the morning keynote, you better have loosened your belt, because the entrées are sure to provide your fill of topics. From hyper-converged to hybrid-cloud and cyber security to robotic process automation these speaker sessions live up to the name of the conference by providing something for every taste. Attendees have the ability to choose from 20 different presentations that are offered in 5 time slots throughout the morning and afternoon.
In between the speaker sessions attendees are able to snack on connections with various IT vendors at their booths to find out more about their products and services. Many well established companies are in attendance as well as startups and there are plenty of opportunities to find out more about a company or product that you’ve already heard of or even to find a solution to a problem from a provider that you didn’t even know existed.
At lunch time, actual lunch (no double meaning this time) will be served followed by our mid-day keynote presented by David Cearley with Gartner. David is a Vice President and Gartner Fellow in Gartner Research and will present on “The Top 10 Strategic Technology Trends for 2019”. These trends have significant disruptive potential and set the stage for innovation over the next five years. Companies that don’t pay attention to these trends and adjust appropriately risk losing competitive advantage to those that do.
So we hope everyone came hungry and doesn’t forget to eat their veggies (that’s code for attending a session that is good for you to attend, even though there is another one that sounds fun). We hope you also left room for dessert because the Technology First staff did a great job of providing end of day festivities to make staying until the end well worth it including refreshments and a door prize drawing.
