Software Engineering Manager

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • A Software Engineering Manager at Mile Two is responsible for the management and growth of their team as well as technical delivery of their project work. Time will be split 75% project contributor and 25% management responsibilities. 
  • Project Contributor
    • Contributes both hands on code and technical leadership to projects
    • Provides direction and guidance related to project architecture and lifecycle
    • Collaborates with Program Managers (PgM), Portfolio Directors, and Technical Directors to ensure project and personnel success.
    • Works with other leads to build proficient and effective teams to meet the needs of the customer.
    • Involved in agile ceremonies and planning
    • Develops project roadmap into technical tasks for the team
  • Management Responsibilities:
    • Conducts weekly 1:1s with direct reports
    • Manages direct report scheduling including weekly timesheet approval and time off requests.
    • Mentoring & coaching staff for growth and performance
    • Makes career development recommendations for their team and provides opportunities for growth when available.
    • Identifies and raises performance issues with individuals, the team, or the project to the other leads/managers as well as the Portfolio and Technical Directors as needed.
    • Ensure company culture and values are being maintained
    • Experience managing multiple software engineers across multiple efforts
    • Participating in interviews and making employment recommendations.
    • Implementing remedial goals and timelines while providing support for success.
    • Prepares and delivers performance reviews & accountability reviews for their direct reports.  At times, done  in collaboration with other Engineering Managers, Project Lead, Portfolio Director (PD) and Technical Director (TD)
  • Additional duties as required

Requirements:

  • 10+ years of related experience
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or similiar
  • Strong communication skills
  • JavaScript, Node.js, ES6+
  • You have built and deployed three tier web applications (UI, API, & DB)
  • Experience demonstrating an understanding of web application development with single page application frameworks such as React or Angular.
  • Good understanding of HTML, CSS, and developing for the web
  • Knowledge of the software development lifecycle
  • Ability to mentor and guide mid level and junior developers
  • Ability to engage in a highly collaborative environment with developers as well as designers and project leads
  • Strong ability to utilize best coding practices and explain to other developers
  • Ability to obtain (or have) a DoD security clearance

Desired:

  • Experience with React, Angular, Vue, or other similar framework
  • API development experience with Node.js or Python
  • Building and deploying applications with docker
  • Experience with Government contracts and customers
  • Experience with transitioning R&D products into production environments
  • Experience in GraphQL / Apollo / TypeORM / Prisma
