    Job Summary:

    The Sr. System Engineer is a senior member of the Information Technology division, responsible for setting technical direction. This position requires a mature individual, “hands-on,” knowledgeable, forward-thinking, & always ready to go the extra mile. This position is primarily responsible for data center, digital infrastructure, connecting SaaS offerings to on-premises technology, SSL certificates, and University network.

    Under the general supervision of the CIO, the Sr. Systems Engineer with be responsible for: various Windows/Red Hat server OS, VMware, HP servers, Nimble/Netapp SAN, Palo-Alto firewall, Aruba router/switches, Aruba AP, Aruba AP controllers, VLAN, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, SSO, Multi-Factor Authentication, SAML, Rapid Recovery backup, Avaya VoIP systems, MS 365, MS OneDrive and other technologies, The candidate is also responsible for hourly/daily backup, data restore in case of data corruption.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    1. Experience with VMware, Linux and/or Windows platforms, management/troubleshooting.
    2. Experience with scripting software and enterprise tools (PowerShell or Python or Jenkins or Ansible) to automate system administration tasks and improve IT processes.
    3. Create, evaluate, and approve plans to implement new technology deployments and system/SaaS integration.
    4. Coordinate the evaluation of new technologies. Make recommendations based on the assessment of new technologies for their applicability to the client’s needs.
    5. Excellent analytical, critical thinking, & problem-solving abilities.
    6. May perform other general and/or related duties as assigned. After-hours and on-call service may be expected.
    7. Must be able to work in a collaborative team environment.
    8. Performs and evaluates cost analyses & vendor comparisons of software/hardware systems to ensure cost-effective and efficient operations and measures feasibility of various approaches and makes recommendations.
    9. Helps to train & oversee the work of other systems engineering staff.
    10. Effectively using interpersonal and communications skills, including tact and diplomacy.

    Experience and Qualifications:

    1. Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field plus ten years of progressive hands-on experience in an enterprise digital environment.
    2. Master’s degree in computer science or related field plus eight years of progressive hands-on experience in an enterprise digital environment is preferred.
    3. Proven technical experience in overseeing the design, development, and implementation of software systems, applications, & related products.
    4. Proven technical experience with systems planning, security principles, & general software management best practices.
    5. Experience with system performance monitoring & fine-tuning
    6. Proven analytical & problem-solving skills.
    7. Excellent written, verbal, & interpersonal communication skills.
    8. Highly self-motivated with a strong work ethic.

    Minimum Job Requirements:

    1. Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field plus ten years of progressive hands-on experience in an enterprise digital environment.
    2. Proven technical experience in overseeing the design, development, & implementation of software systems, applications, & related products.
    3. Proven technical experience with systems planning, security principles, & general software management best practices.
    4. Adaptable, flexible, & able to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
    5. Be proactive to a solution.
    6. Courteous, professional, & patient with the clients.
